A retelling of Hansel and Gretel--Spanish 1

This is just a story.  If it was an extended reading, I'd have gone into much more detail.

Había unos hermanos que se llamaban Hansel y Gretel.  Ellos tenían padres muy pobres.  Un día, el papá tomó a los dos  niños por la mano y les dijo –Vamos a caminar al bosque (forest).  Los hermanos y su papá caminaron y caminaron.  Luego los niños querían comer.  El papá les dio pan.  Luego los niños querían dormir.  Mientras los hermanos estaban durmidos, ¡el papá regresó a su casa!

There were a brother and sister named Hansel and Gretel.  They had very poor parents.  One day, the father took the two children by the hand and told them, "We're going for a walk in the forest."  The siblings and their dad walked and walked.  Then the children wanted to eat.  The father gave them bread.  Then the children wanted to sleep.  While the brother and sister were sleeping, the dad returned home!

Hansel se despertó y vio que su papá no estaba.  Despertó a su hermana y le tomó la mano.  La llevó a una casa muy bonita.  La casa estaba hecha (was made) de ¡puro chocolate!  Hansel le dio un poco del chocolate a su hermana, y entonces escuchó algo curioso.  Una persona estaba hablando--¡y era una bruja!  La bruja agarró a los chicos y los llevó adentro (inside) de la casa.  Les dijo—Ustedes comieron mi casa, y ahora ¡voy a comer a ustedes!--  La bruja les metió en una jaula (cage) y se fue.

Hansel woke up and saw that his dad wasn't there.  He woke up his sister and took her hand.  He toook her to a very pretty house.  The house was made of pure chocolate!  Hansel gave a little chocolate to his sister and then heart something weird.  A person was talking--and it was a witch!  The witch grabbed the children and took them inside the house.  She told them, "You ate my house, and now I'm going to eat you!"  The   The witch put them in a cage and went away.

Hansel y Gretel estaban tristes.  Pero muy rápido, Gretel tuvo una idea.  –Hansel, ¡podemos salir de aquí!  Ella buscó un hueso (bone), y cuando lo encontró, usó un cuchillo (knife) en su falda (skirt) para hacer una llave (key). Con la llave, los hermanos se escaparon.  Luego buscaron una casa.  Había otra bruja—una bruja buena.  Les dio una casa bonita.  Los hermanos estaban muy contentos.

Hansel and Gretel were sad.  But very quickly, Gretel had an idea.  "Hansel, we can leave here!  She looked for a bone, and when she found it, she used a knife in her skirt to make a key.  With the key, the brother and sister escaped.  Then they looked for a house.  There was another house--a good witch.  She gave them a pretty house.  The brother and sister were happy.
