Why "Cuento"?

Hi everyone!

If you are looking for my personal blog, this ain't it!  This is a blog for teachers who teach foreign language using stories.  My dream is for it to become a place where EVERYONE can share their own stories (or ask others for stories, using suggested vocabulary), so that our storytelling community can become richer.

I have taught using TPRS (Teaching proficiency through reading and storytelling) for 13 years.  My students have achieved great results with this methods, and many of them have gone on to major or minor in Spanish.  I attribute this to the fact that TPRS provides them with a fun and easy way to gain proficiency in the language.

So please, if you are interested, join in!! I covet your comments!! If you want to add a story, email it to me or include it in the comments section.  If you want me to write a story for you (I can do English or Spanish--perfection NOT guaranteed in the latter), just give me the suggested vocab and I'll be happy to oblige.  I am one of those weird people who enjoys the challenge of making stories using vocab.  I don't think I could ever go back to stories in books ever again.  Blaine, Carol, and the rest are great, but I know what I like, and I soon figure out what my students like.

One final note--I don't do animals as main characters, but you are welcome to!

So here's to us! Let's start writing and sharing!

  1. Hi Meg. I'm also a weirdo who enjoys the challenge of creating stories. I love the idea for this blog. It would be cool to see it become a database of stories/vocab combos of many teachers. I'll gladly send you some of my scrips, but I'm not finding your email address on here?? Thanks.
